Naomi Cruz Talks FX's Pose Hector Grandfather of House Of Xtravaganza + Acting Ambitions and More
The drive behind one of the most compelling and aspiring actresses membering the House of Xtravaganza, is one we couldn’t miss for Cyclolore Magazine’s Dossier Mining Issue and that’s Naomi Cruz as our next Cover Girl hero-worshipping her family ties in New York City along with devotion to our community.
The Grandfather Hector Xtravaganza who passed of Lymphoma at the age of 53, was the Father of the House Naomi Cruz is a member of, and he was from about 1993 to about 2003 where he actually moved up into an emeritus position as the Grandfather of the House. Given the words our Cover Star Naomi Cruz had to speak about him personally this seemed like the perfect fitting role meant for him.
Ryan Murphy explained about the pilot script of Pose “So many scenes, were inspired by stories he told me.” Hector Xtravaganza has done tons of work and appearances to heighten AIDS awareness and to help others with the simple act of loving, kindness, and understanding. This says so much being that he was a founding member of ‘The Xtravas’ which used to be predominantly hispanic, with a typified background story of the youngsters that joined (that being the gay identifying ones atleast.)
“Grandfather Hector Xtravaganza was a beacon of light not only to me & other members of the house but to everyone,” said Naomi Cruz in our interview. He hosted Balls all over the New York area and even acted as a Judge on Pose FX’s TV Series, which was nominated for a Golden Globe Award. The show is wrapped around 80’s Ballroom scene and Ryan Murphy says that Hector Xtravaganza was an “invaluable contributor to the entire show.
Cover Story Interview
1.) What initially aspired you to get into Film and what were some of the first steps you accomplished to get on the road to Stardom your on now?
Naomi Cruz: What initially inspired me to get into film was being in between jobs & needing income. I didn’t really see it as something long term but eventually I fell in love with it.
2.) How do you identify & connect with the genesis of FX’s Pose and what kind of elements would you say you bring on set?
Naomi Cruz: What made me connect with Pose was from my own experience being in ballroom. Also, knowing people that have gone through similar things as some of the cast.
3.) You’re a member of the House of Xtravaganza, your House Grandfather Hector Xtravaganza recently passed in December 2018 touching the world, how would the Family including yourself describe how he touched so many individuals in his Life?
Naomi Cruz: Grandfather Hector Xtravaganza was a beacon of light not only to me & other members of the house but to everyone. It didn’t matter who you were, he would always lend a hand or ear to those who need it. That is why he was loved by so many in the community.
4.) The House of Xtravaganza has been around and on top in New York City for decades now, especially after working with Madonna, describe this Houses’ Evolution and what are some things that remain?
Naomi Cruz: The house has been around since 1982 and every since then the house has evolved & grown in many ways. Especially with the new members adding their own flare & creativity.
5.) Was there any kind of preparation that brought you to your ideal best character-self?
Naomi Cruz: From my experience in Pose I just bought forth what I thought the past mothers in the house embodied.
6.) Do you have any other endeavors or Brands that your apart of or promoting?
Naomi Cruz: Moving forward acting is more of a hobby for me & I would love to continue to do it on my spare time. I started working for Hearst Magazines 4 months ago & the experience I’m having here is amazing!
7.) What is your favorite restaurant to dine here in New York City, your favorite makeup brand, hair care system and the things you love to do most on your spare time?
Naomi Cruz: My Favorite restaurant is Mercer Kitchen . My Favorite makeup is NARS I just love the feel & colors. My Favorite Hair care systems are Joico & Carols Daughter I just love them both. One of my favorite things to do in my spare time is meditate, when I have some time to myself, I just relax & focus on clearing my mind.
