Doja Cat Unleashes Evil Twins & Alter Egos in her 2023 VMA Performance
The MTV Video Music Awards on Tuesday night included yet another mind-bending, visually stunning performance by DOJA CAT, an artist whose visuals are just as vital as her music. She played the songs "Attention," "Paint the Town Red," and "Demons" from her much awaited next album, Scarlet, which is scheduled to be released on September 22.
For "Attention," the rapper began the performance by dressing like a frustrated librarian with pencils in her hair. She then started to become naked before starting "Paint the Town Red." Twenty bloody copies of her Scarlet alter ego followed her around the stage the entire time. For "Demons," Doja let her hair down and rapped fiercely beneath florescent yellow lighting.
This year's VMAs also featured performances by Anitta and Olivia Rodrigo. In addition to Shakira, who will get the Video Vanguard Award, Demi Lovato, Karol G, Kelsea Ballerini, Mneskin, Stray Kids, and Tomorrow x Together will also be recognized. Diddy will receive the Global Icon title.
The MTV Video Music Awards are being broadcast live on MTV from New Jersey's Prudential Center.
